Children's Counselling

Counselling sessions will encompass facilitating a safe space where children can speak honestly and openly. They will be supported to overcome challenges, and work towards positive goals and solutions.

Many children find it difficult to express in words how they are feeling, therefore the sessions will combine “talk therapy” and an ‘active’ counselling approach, employing strength-based techniques through drawing, painting, games as well as art and craft activities.

The therapeutic approach will include solution-focused and narrative therapy to facilitate a safe space to empower children and young people.  It will aim to help them learn skills to identify their feelings and reactions, build strategies to assist them to feel emotionally safe, whilst ensuring their voice is heard throughout the sessions.

Counselling sessions will be confidential, however general information following each session will be shared with the parent and any other information the child or young person has agreed to be shared.  The parent should allow approximately 5 to 10 minutes at the end of each session for this information sharing to occur.
